DIGSTOCK IV - Haunts, History, & Heritage in the heart of the Adirondacks

Updated: Aug 13

October 2022 brought a thrilling twist to the Digstock legacy as we launched Digstock IV on a sweeping 2,000+ acre farm in the historic hills of Peru, New York. Set against the vibrant backdrop of autumn foliage and mountain air, this event wasn't just another detecting opportunity—it was a full-blown experience, blending celebration, discovery, and community in a way only Digstock can.

With 275 participants in attendance, traveling in from over 42 U.S. states and Canadian provinces, this was one of our most intimate—but spirited—gatherings yet. And what better way to kick off an October dig than with a Halloween costume contest?

A Frightfully Fun Beginning

As registration opened, ghosts, goblins, and history buffs in full regalia gathered under the main tent. A couple in Revolutionary War reenactment uniforms stole the show, winning top honors in a contest judged by a roaring crowd of detectorists and staff. The energy was high, and the fun didn’t stop with costumes.

Our team transformed the Digstock HQ into a festive haunt—complete with cobweb-covered tables, themed decorations, Halloween buckets, and even metal spider tokens hidden throughout the fields. Participants who found one of these creepy-crawly prizes were rewarded with exclusive Digstock merchandise and gear. It was all in good fun—and it set the tone for a weekend no one would forget.

Into the Mountains They Went

The land we hunted at Digstock IV was nothing short of majestic. Tucked into the Adirondack foothills, the property sprawled across pastures, woodlots, and river valleys, each with deep historical roots. Once occupied by early settlers, soldiers, and traders, these fields held stories dating back to the 1700s—and the soil was ready to speak.

On Day 1, participants fanned out across the terrain. Some headed for the outer zones they'd carefully researched the night before. Others stayed close to HQ—and that’s where history repeated itself.

Just as in Digstock II, where a War of 1812 shoulder belt plate was famously uncovered in the parking area, Digstock IV saw Seated Liberty coins and early U.S. coppers come to light right beside the tent where hours earlier the costume contest had taken place. It was a reminder to never overlook the obvious—and that incredible finds can happen anywhere.

Swagon Wagons, Surprises, and Shared Moments

As the day wore on, our team deployed the beloved “Swagon Wagons”—ATVs loaded with free gear generously donated by our sponsors. We made frequent stops across the property, handing out hats, dig tools, bags, and more, all while catching up with diggers to hear what they’d found.

And the stories did not disappoint. Among the highlights:

  • A $2.50 gold coin, glimmering in the afternoon sun

  • Several 1700s Spanish Reales

  • A stunning 18th-century cameo, remarkably preserved

  • Dozens of pre-Civil War pewter buttons

  • Multiple early colonial and U.S. coppers

  • Finds ranging from the post-Revolutionary era to World War II

Even more impressive? These weren’t just scooped up by veteran hunters. Many of the standout discoveries came from first-time diggers, new to the hobby and grinning ear to ear as they joined the community of finders.

A Grand Finale Worth Remembering

As is Digstock tradition, the final day brought with it the much-anticipated raffle and prize ceremony. Dozens of attendees walked away with premium metal detectors, recovery gear, apparel, and tools—along with cold, hard cash from our ever-popular 50/50 drawing.

The laughter, applause, and genuine congratulations that echoed under the tent reminded us why we do this. Digstock events are about more than what’s found in the ground—they’re about the people who come together above it.

A Halloween Hunt for the History Books

Digstock IV wasn’t just a dig—it was a seasonal celebration, a historic adventure, and a full-sensory experience. The combination of scenic beauty, historical relevance, light-hearted fun, and serious detecting made this event one of our most cherished to date.

Whether it was the clink of an old coin in a sifter, the cheers from a prizewinner under the tent, or the shared stories told around the food trucks, this event reminded us all of the magic that happens when people gather with purpose, respect the land, and embrace the unknown.

We’re proud of what we built in Peru, NY—and we’re even more excited for what’s next.

Stay tuned as we continue digging deeper, exploring farther, and building a community unlike any other.
